Warren Realrider

Warren Realrider is a Pawnee/Crow multidisciplinary sound artist based in Norman, Oklahoma. While studying painting at the University of Oklahoma he began an exploration of sound, materials, and site as elements of his art practice. Warren created the Tick-Suck noise performance project in 2016 and has since presented his solo works and sound performance collaborations in varied Oklahoma locations as well as select national locations and events such as Ende Tymes festival in New York City and Molten Plains Fest in Denton, Texas.

His works such as IIII Kitapâtu and Unassigned Data work within the unclaimed spaces between contemporary anti-plains existence, universe engagement, and untethered sound to create hypnotic structures of human/item interface. The 2022 work Until We Cross All Waters 3 expands his practice through word/spatial collaboration with writer & artist Kalyn Fay Barnoskie, and refraction of site specificity through field recording/found item collage. Realrider works to play the tensions and time locations between objects, functions, and movements to create sound pieces lashed to the frameworks of noise art, improvisation, and experimental composition.

COUSIN has commissioned his project Kahâriwis that will inspect the research activities on or near Cedar Point Biological Research Station in SW Nebraska and gather visual and audio documentation of the cliff swallow(English)/kahâriwis(Pawnee) colonies that live there in some of the densest populations in N. America. Alongside that documentation will be information, visual, and audio gathering from the surrounding border towns of the traditional hunting range of the four bands of Pawnee nations formerly of Nebraska. As an fifth generation relocated Pawnee I will be moving through these spaces and observing the ways in which the contemporary U.S. settler landscape encapsulates, shapes, and receives these migrant birds and immigrant descendants. All video, audio, visual, and material documentation will be combined into a final report back to the people.
